Learn to be Happy Alone

Some people enjoy being alone and doing their own thing while others hate being alone. If you are someone that hates being alone, you need to learn to build a relationship with yourself. You will spend your whole life with yourself and you need to learn to enjoy who you are, even if it means going solo.

Being alone does not mean you are lonely. You can be happy and be alone and you have to realize that the two things are not the same.

If you are a person that loves being alone, it doesn’t mean you are friendless or you are not able to be loved, it just means that you love your alone time. Maybe you even look forward to it and you never feel lonely when you have this time by yourself.

If you are always around people you have fun with such as friends or family members, you might feel empty and alone when you are by yourself and this can be loneliness.

You have to learn to be happy when you are alone and not to be lonely.

Getting Started

If you want to learn to be alone and not to be lonely, you can find your way through this. You may have to change your ideas and your lifestyle, but you can make it happen.

Comparing to Others

Stop comparing your life to others. If you do not have as many friends as someone else, that doesn’t matter. Find what is best for you.

There is no way to know fi having a lot of friends will make you happy so just be who you are.

Social Media

Social media is not bad, but it can make you feel stressed and depressed. Take time off and learn that not everyone is really happy even if they seem to be. Take time to reflect on yourself and not others.

Ban yourself from social media for a day or so and limit your time there.

Phone Break

Cellphones can change what being alone means. Is anyone alone when they can text or call someone just at the touch of a button?  Technology is helpful but you sometimes get reliant on it when you have it and you do not take time to have your own thoughts.

When you are alone, turn off your phone and reconnect to yourself. If you get bored, get paper and a pent and write something down.

Mind Wandering

Maybe it has been a long time since you have been quiet in your mind. Take a few minutes each day and do some alone time without these things:

  • Social Media
  • Books
  • Phone
  • Music
  • Internet
  • TV

Find a place to sit down and meditate for a while. Be quiet and let your mind wander wherever it wants to go. You will find this freeing.

Go on A Date, Alone

Take yourself out. Go out and find something to do that makes you smile. This might feel strange at first but there are positive things about going on your own date.

You will see it is so much cheaper and you will not have to be someone you aren’t.

Get Physical

Join the gym or an exercise group. Getting physical can help you to feel happier and make you healthier. Start exercising a few minutes each day and then you will gain confidence in your life.

This will get you out of the house and doing something you enjoy on your own.

Spend time out in nature. Go for a walk in the park or go barefoot in your garden. Pay attention to the sights and sounds that you have. Let the air hit you and feel the breeze. This can lower your blood pressure and make you feel happy.

Some people have a hard time being alone, but they do not realize that there are many perks to it. One thing is that you do not have to please someone else and you can take advantage of getting your thoughts in order.

Here are some things that you can do when you are alone:

  • Take up as much time as you need to make some healthy meals for the week. Use the whole kitchen to cook.
  • Find an old hobby and spread it out across the floor. If you like scrapbooking, put it all out there and enjoy.
  • Dance around your house. Learn to have fun and dance like no one is watching because they aren’t.

Another thing you can do when you are alone is volunteer your time. There are many people that need you and it can help you to feel good. This can help you to be connected to yourself and those in need.

Find out what is needed in your neighborhood and do something that feels right for you. Be kind to others and do this whenever you can.

Find what you are thankful for and what makes you happy. Never take for granted the things in your life and learn to make a list of what you have that makes you feel good.

Break Time

Take time to be alone and to be happy and confident. Stop criticizing yourself and stop judging yourself. Learn to be kind to who you are and remember the good things you can do.

Take time to cook for yourself. You do not have to have someone close to you to make a healthy and good meal. Prepare meals that make you smile.

Even take time to set the table and have a dinner party by yourself.

Find ways to be creative and to get your energy out. Do things you have never done before such as painting or learning to play an instrument.

Solo Outings

Find places to go and things that are fun. Make plans on your calendar and anticipate the fun things you will get to do.

Go to a bed and breakfast for the night or go to a concert.  Find what you are interested in and do it.

Coping Skills

Let go of things that make you stressed and learn to be happy. Find skills and develop them.

Cope with things that have happened in your life and see if you get stronger.

When you get comfortable being alone, spend more time talking to others. Learn to connect with people.

Visit with a family or friend and call someone you haven’t talked to in a while.

Forgive and you can find your happiness and peace. Forgiving can help your health and take away stress and depression in your life.

Forgiveness can help you to move forward. Never forget to forgive yourself as well.

Eat well, exercise and sleep plenty. Take time to see your doctor and make sure you are healthy and have no preexisting health conditions.

Make plans for your future. Set goals that you want to accomplish in life and do it. Make good decisions. Revisit your goals often so that you can see what you have done.

Never worry about asking someone for help. If you feel lonely or sad, reach out to a counselor or therapist. Here is when you should reach out to someone:

  • When you find you are always stressed.
  • Having a hard time coping.
  • When you have symptoms of anxiety.
  • When you feel depressed.

Do not wait until things get out of control. It is better that you talk to someone right away when you are feeling bad. Finding a therapist can help you to talk about all of your problems and get them out in the open so that you can have a healthy mind and body.
